How Training Helps Pre, During, and Post-Surgery

Facing surgery? Discover how targeted training before, during, and after your operation dramatically improves recovery, builds crucial strength reserves, and fosters a positive mindset for a smoother return to daily life. Learn how adapting your fitness approach, embracing change, and focusing on mental resilience can empower you to not just survive, but thrive post-surgery.

We try to avoid as many surgeries as we can in our lives, but they are often inevitable. Whether your joints wear and you have got a new knee, a hernia, or your organs fail, and you need an operation, surgeries change our bodies and brains in many ways. We have been helping many people who need to strengthen their bodies to sustain or recover quickly and efficiently from major surgeries. Strengthening your body is great, but improving your mind is essential when getting surgery. Surgeries are often traumatic, so the quicker the recovery, the better we can get back to living our lives and finding a new normal.

Training is not just about physical strength; it’s about empowerment. It aids in recovery and metabolic processes, enhancing various aspects of health and wellness. For instance, if you used to fall ill frequently and start a training program, you’ll notice a significant decrease in the intensity and frequency of your illnesses. This accelerated recovery process allows us to regain our independence and live life fully; a well-designed training program can facilitate this. Training provides a reserve of clean energy, enabling you to lead a more efficient and productive life.

Often, doctors will not do surgeries if they feel our bodies are not healthy enough and cannot sustain the stress. Getting a base strength system to be able to have your body knocked down for a bit of a while may seem ironic, but it is essential if you are having invasive surgery. We have had multiple clients who have had life-saving surgeries where their doctor told them if their bodies weren’t strong, they would not have survived. An active body that understands recovery processes through training makes surgery recovery much easier and more effective.

Having a positive and efficient attitude also helps with trauma and surgery. When working with our clients, we ensure we address all aspects of comprehensive health and wellness. As we take pride in helping avoid many surgeries with people, we also help explain how to deal with and progress your body when you must get surgery. We often aid people in getting surgery and explain the process of how it is not as bad as what people make it out to be and that there is life after surgery. Many times, people think knee and hip surgeries weaken our bodies and we must learn to live more handicapped in our new life post-surgery, which is far from the truth. If you learn to move and adapt correctly, you could be better than ever.

Our motto is: it’s not the strongest or most intelligent person who survives but the most adaptable to change. Accepting the new you when you have a new chronic disease is not the end of the world but the start of a new chapter. Discovering your current capabilities and potential is the first step towards learning new progressions. We often compare ourselves to our pre-surgery abilities, but this is a self-defeating mindset we must avoid. Understanding our current situation and learning to adapt is the key to embracing our new lives after a major surgery.

Most of the time, surgeries are just redirections of our bodies and lives, not always a weakening or lessening. Finding a new way to live and strengthen our bodies and brains will always be the key to living fulfillment. Accepting our newly constructed bodies will always be a process and is not always easy; however, it is necessary for living. Surgeries can be very traumatic as sometimes we see our actual mortality, and seeking therapy post-surgery is often a beneficial need to help process the life-changing event.

The key to living after surgery is embracing change and discovering new training programs that are engaging, practical, and challenging. There is a saying, “Don’t be afraid to not be good at something new.” You may have to change the activity you did before your surgery, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a new, challenging activity.

If you had hernia surgery and used to lift heavy weights, you must change your training program, or you will continue to hurt your body. Maybe you want to start a new resistance program that is safer but more challenging, like controlled bodyweight gymnastics or specified resistance bands. If you have a hip and knee replacement, you probably do not want to run 20 miles a day or squat 300 pounds, but you can do highly safer and more challenging exercises.

Regardless of your challenges, there are so many ways to adapt. Do not be afraid to seek help to give you a different perspective and direction if you need a reinvention of your body and brain. Life can be great when you find your path and redefine yourself.
